21 Day Fix Calorie Calculator

Enter your weight to get the daily calorie target and the container counts the 21 Day Fix eating plan assigns for it, worked out with the programme's own published formula and shown as a colour-coded chart and table.

Independent, unofficial companion tool. This page is not made, run or approved by Beachbody or BODi. It reproduces the plan's publicly described arithmetic so you can check your own numbers; it carries no affiliation with the programme or its trademark owner.
Your weight

The plan's own formula runs in pounds; switch to kg and we convert behind the scenes.

Off applies the plan's fixed 750 kcal daily cut for weight loss. On shows the maintenance number with no cut, useful once you have reached goal weight.

What the 21 Day Fix container system is

21 Day Fix is a portion-control eating plan built around seven colour-coded containers instead of counted grams or calories. You are given a daily quota of each colour, fill them with the matching food group, and eat what you have filled. Green holds vegetables, purple holds fruit, red holds protein, yellow holds carbohydrates, blue holds healthy fats, orange holds seeds and salad dressings, and a small teaspoon measure covers oils and nut butters used in cooking.

The quota you get depends on a single number: a daily calorie target calculated from your bodyweight. This calculator works out that target and the container counts that go with it, and shows both as a chart and a plain table.

How the target and bracket are worked out

The published method runs in three short steps, all in pounds:

Baseline = weight (lb) × 11 Maintenance = baseline + 400 Target = maintenance − 750 (skip this step in maintenance mode)

A 150 lb person gets a baseline of 1,650, a maintenance figure of 2,050, and a weight-loss target of 1,300 kcal. That target is then read against four fixed brackets, and whichever one it lands in decides your containers for the day:

  • 1,200–1,499 kcal: 3 green, 2 purple, 4 red, 2 yellow, 1 blue, 1 orange, 2 teaspoons.
  • 1,500–1,799 kcal: 4 green, 3 purple, 4 red, 3 yellow, 1 blue, 1 orange, 4 teaspoons.
  • 1,800–2,099 kcal: 5 green, 3 purple, 5 red, 4 yellow, 1 blue, 1 orange, 5 teaspoons.
  • 2,100–2,300 kcal: 6 green, 4 purple, 6 red, 4 yellow, 1 blue, 1 orange, 6 teaspoons.

Two rules cap the number at either end. If the arithmetic lands under 1,200, the plan raises it to 1,200 rather than assigning fewer containers than the bottom bracket. If it lands over 2,300, the plan caps it there and uses the top bracket's containers. The calculator applies both caps automatically and tells you when it has stepped in.

Choosing your weight, and when to use maintenance mode

Use your current weight, not a goal weight: the plan recalculates as you go, and most guidance suggests checking again every time you have lost a noticeable few pounds, since crossing a bracket boundary changes your containers. If you are working in kilograms, toggle the unit and the conversion happens automatically before the formula runs, because the published arithmetic itself is written in pounds.

Switch on maintenance mode once you have reached a weight you are happy with. It runs the same baseline and adds the same 400, but skips the 750 kcal cut, so you eat at the maintenance figure instead of a deficit. The programme's own materials describe this as the natural next step after the initial three-week phase, rather than a separate calculation.

Reading your containers and the bracket chart

The bar under "Where your target sits" plots your number against the full 0 to 2,300 kcal span the plan uses, with the 1,200 floor marked as a dashed line so you can see at a glance whether you are comfortably inside the range or pressed against its edge. The container chart below it turns your daily quota into six coloured bars plus a teaspoon count, and the table underneath spells out what belongs in each colour so you are not left guessing whether an avocado is a fat or a fruit (it is a fat, in a blue container). The final table lays out all four brackets side by side, with yours picked out, so you can see exactly how many containers a change in either direction would add or remove.

A blunt formula, and what it leaves out

Worth saying plainly: weight × 11 + 400 is a one-size proxy. It does not ask your age, sex, height or activity level, all of which move genuine energy needs by hundreds of calories in either direction. A properly fitted estimate, such as the Mifflin-St Jeor equation used on our Daily Calorie Calculator, will usually land closer to your true maintenance figure, then let you choose your own deficit rather than a fixed 750. The 21 Day Fix number is easy to calculate without any of that information, which is exactly its appeal and exactly its limitation.

The container system itself is doing something different from calorie counting, and arguably doing it well: it replaces a habit of weighing and logging every gram with a simple, repeatable visual routine, which is a legitimate piece of behavioural psychology regardless of how the underlying calorie number was derived. Treat the containers as the part of the plan worth keeping even if you privately prefer a more individually fitted calorie target underneath them.

Commercial fitness programmes lean heavily on disclaimers for exactly this reason: a formula this simple has to be hedged with "consult a professional" language because it cannot account for the exceptions any blunt formula misses. This page carries the same caution for the same reason, not as decoration.

Questions people ask

Is this the official 21 Day Fix calculator?

No. This is an independent, unofficial tool built from the plan's publicly described formula and container chart. It has no affiliation with Beachbody, BODi, or the 21 Day Fix trademark, and uses no branded material.

Why does the formula use pounds even if I enter kilograms?

Because the published method itself is written in pounds. Entering kilograms just adds a conversion step before the same arithmetic runs; the result is identical either way, to the nearest container.

What happens if my number comes out under 1,200 calories?

The plan raises it to 1,200 rather than assigning fewer containers than the bottom bracket allows. This calculator does the same and flags it when it happens, since 1,200 is treated as an everyday floor for adults, not a target to undercut.

Do the container counts change with age, sex or activity level?

No. The published bracket system runs on weight alone. That is a real limitation against equations that also weigh age, height, sex and activity, which is why the honest comparison further up this page points at a more individually fitted alternative.

Should I use maintenance mode once I hit my goal weight?

That is what it is there for. It runs the same baseline calculation and skips the 750 kcal cut, giving you the plan's maintenance figure and matching containers instead of a continuing deficit.

What is in the orange and teaspoon allowances?

Orange covers seeds and light salad dressings. The teaspoon allowance is separate from the seven main containers and covers cooking oils and nut butters, capped at a small daily count that rises alongside your calorie bracket.

My weight is well outside a typical adult range. Does the formula still work?

The arithmetic still runs, but the plan's guidance was written with a typical adult range in mind. At the extremes this calculator flags the input and the 1,200/2,300 caps still apply; individualised advice is the safer route at either end.

This is an independent, unofficial reference tool. It is not produced, endorsed, sponsored or approved by Beachbody or BODi, and "21 Day Fix" remains the trademark of its owner. It reproduces publicly described eating-plan arithmetic for convenience only and is not medical or nutritional advice; check with a doctor or registered dietitian before starting any calorie-restricted eating plan, especially if pregnant, breastfeeding, or managing a health condition.
