The demo prices an installation from the lawn area and the grade of grass, the way most installers do their own first pass: a rate per square metre for supplying and fitting the turf, which climbs with pile height and yarn quality, plus a rate per square metre for clearing what's there now, whether that's a real lawn to dig out and dispose of or an old, worn artificial lawn to strip back to bare ground. Pet-friendly infill and odour treatment is priced as a further rate per square metre, since it scales with the area, while curved edges or an awkward, complex shape are priced as a percentage on top, since they add cutting time and offcuts rather than more material. Raised areas or steps are priced as a fixed extra, since they are usually a single piece of work rather than something that grows with the lawn. None of these numbers is special: when we build a calculator for a real artificial grass installer, the rates, the ranges, the questions and the rules are all theirs, entered once and changed whenever they like.
The point is not the arithmetic, which is deliberately simple. It is that the homeowner gets an honest range in under a minute, and the installer gets a lead that already contains the area, the ground condition, the grade they want and the customer's expectations. The conversation that follows starts from "when can you come and measure up" rather than "how much roughly". Anyone still buying the roll themselves and laying it as a DIY job is better served by our own artificial grass calculator, which works out roll widths, joins and tape; a fitted quote like this one is a different sale, the finish and the years it holds up, not the material.
Why an instant quote beats a contact form
A contact form asks the visitor to do the work: describe the garden, wait, and hope. A quote calculator answers their actual question, what is this likely to cost, and asks for their details at the exact moment they are most engaged. Homeowners weighing up artificial grass are usually comparing installers on the same afternoon, so being the one who answers first with a real number, rather than a promise to call back, tends to win the enquiry. It is also a chance to explain, in plain terms, why a proper dig-out and sub-base costs more than laying over an old lawn, and why a 10-year look depends on prep most people never see. The estimate sets expectations early, so the firm quote rarely surprises anyone, and the jobs that were never going to fit a budget filter themselves out before anyone drives anywhere.
