The demo prices exterior work the way most painters and decorators cost a job on the doorstep: a rate per square metre for the walls, set by house type and by surface, since render, masonry paint on brick and pebbledash all take a different amount of paint and time to finish properly. Pebbledash in particular drinks noticeably more paint than a smooth wall, so it carries its own higher rate rather than being lumped in with brick. Windows and sills are priced per opening, since a house with four windows and one with fourteen are simply different jobs, fascias and soffits are priced per metre using the same typical run lengths as the wall area presets, the front door is its own flat line, and garden walls are priced by the metre too. Scaffold is kept separate again: ladders and towers cover most jobs, but a full scaffold changes the price meaningfully, so the widget only adds it when the homeowner says access needs it. None of this is special: when we build a calculator for a real exterior painting firm, the rates, the surfaces, the questions and the rules are all theirs, entered once and changed whenever they like.
