The demo prices a fence from the run length and the style, the way most fencing contractors do their own first pass: a rate per metre for the panels or boards supplied and fitted, a multiplier for height since a 4ft run uses less timber and less labour than a 6ft one, an allowance per metre for concrete posts if chosen over timber, a flat fee per gate, and per-metre add-ons for taking the old fence away and for gravel boards along the base. The rates themselves are illustrative but sanity-checked against published UK fencing cost guides, and are cited in the calculator's own code comments for anyone who wants to check them. None of these numbers is special: when we build a calculator for a real fencing firm, the rates, the ranges, the questions and the rules are all theirs, entered once and changed whenever they like. AllEasyCalc's own free tool at /fence-calculator/ works out the panels, posts and concrete a DIY fencer needs to buy; this widget answers a different question for a different visitor, what will it cost to have someone else supply and fit it, and it is that visitor who becomes a lead.
The point is not the arithmetic, which is deliberately simple. It is that the homeowner gets an honest range in under a minute, and the fencing contractor gets a lead that already contains the run, the style, the height and the customer's expectations. The conversation that follows starts from "when can you start" rather than "how much roughly".
Why an instant quote beats a contact form
A contact form asks the visitor to do the work: describe the job, wait, and hope. A quote calculator answers their actual question, what is this likely to cost, and asks for their details at the exact moment they are most engaged. That matters more for fencing than for most trades, because demand does not arrive evenly: a bad storm can flatten panels across a whole postcode overnight, and everyone affected starts searching within the hour, at all times of day. A firm whose site answers instantly, rather than asking someone to wait for a call back, is the one that picks up the surge. The estimate sets expectations early, so the firm quote rarely surprises anyone, and the jobs that were never going to fit a budget filter themselves out before anyone drives anywhere.
