The demo prices a patio from its area and the paving chosen, the way most installers do their own first pass: a supply-and-fit rate per square metre for concrete slabs, a higher rate for porcelain and a middle rate for Indian sandstone, since the material cost and the care needed to lay each one differ. Where an old patio has to come out before the new one goes down, a per square metre removal charge is added on top of laying onto cleared grass or soil. Steps are priced individually since each one is a small job of its own, edging or border is priced by the metre it runs, and a drainage channel is priced as a fixed extra because it is usually a single run along one edge rather than something that scales with the whole area. Sealing, where chosen, is priced per square metre across the finished patio. The rates themselves are illustrative but sanity-checked against published UK patio cost guides, and are cited in the calculator's own code comments for anyone who wants to check them. None of these numbers is special: when we build a calculator for a real patio firm, the rates, the ranges, the questions and the rules are all theirs, entered once and changed whenever they like. AllEasyCalc's own free tool at /paving-calculator/ works out the slabs, sub-base and mortar a DIY paver needs to buy; this widget answers a different question for a different visitor, what will it cost to have someone else supply and fit the whole patio, and it is that visitor, wanting a total rather than a materials list, who becomes a lead.
The point is not the arithmetic, which is deliberately simple. It is that the homeowner gets an honest, itemised range in under a minute, and the installer gets a lead that already contains the size, the paving choice, the ground condition and the customer's expectations. The conversation that follows starts from "when can you come and measure up" rather than "how much roughly".
Why an instant quote beats a contact form
A contact form asks the visitor to do the work: describe the job, wait, and hope. A quote calculator answers their actual question, what is this likely to cost, and asks for their details at the exact moment they are most engaged. Patios are also a job most homeowners price up against two or three firms in the same weekend, and the business whose website gives a straight answer first tends to be the one that gets the site visit booked. The estimate sets expectations early, so the firm quote rarely surprises anyone, and the patios that were never going to fit a budget filter themselves out before anyone drives anywhere.
